Pokemon Go will Not be Available in Lollipop 5.0 Version of Android and iPhone 5s and 6

Are you enjoying catching pokemon using your 5.0 “Lollipop” Android and iOS 10 or 11 smartphones or tablets? Well, you might need to catch on for the latest mobile unit for you to continue playing Pokemon Go. The developer of the game, Niantic, will be pushing an update in October that will end support of Pokemon Go on the mentioned models.

In addition, the popular pokemon-catching game will not be available on older iPhones, including iPhone 5S and iPhone 6. Niantic mentioned to The Verge that “iPhone 5S and 6 have just 1 GB of RAM, and we don’t want to hold back development and implementation of features for the vast majority of players who have more robust phones.”

Since most of the apps and games are heavily updating for the best possible experience of their users, some of the older phones might not be able to handle updates. Considering the fact that Pokemon Go is an online game that requires good quality phone cameras, GPS tracking, and other heavy-duty features, it can’t operate that well on certain phone models.

According to the Pokemon Go developer, the update will only affect “a very small percentage of a daily active player." However, other people who aren’t willing to upgrade their handsets or aren’t capable are also affected.

Since the launch of the reality game in 2016, the popularity of it grew bigger in the following years. Niantic Labs said that it was in 2019 when the game’s popularity surged as the pandemic arises. According to Sensor Tower, the increase shows in its Q2 2020 revenue, which inflated to more than $254 million.

The COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on Pokemon Go is advantageous to the game since most of the people are left with no choice but to stay at home. The game was one of the many online games and apps that had helped people kill time.
