Hype about a new software developed by OpenAI, an artificial intelligence development company co-founded by Elon Musk, is circulating the cyberworld.
Generative Pre-training or GPT-3 is the new language-generating software that produces almost human-like text upon command. The software is designed in such a system that enables it to scour through web content to produce a logical sequence of text. With just a few prompts, it can be whatever you want it to be - a poet, a songwriter, a computer programmer, even a translator.
The company has allowed access to the software to a few people for initial testing, and most of them had positive reviews. Entrepreneur Arram Sabeti made a review of the software via a blog post. Apparently, the software is the most coherent out of all AI languages so far and also intuitive.
GPT-3 will first be subjected to be critiqued by developers before releasing a commercial version towards the end of the year. The software’s cost and purpose in the business world are yet to be known, but it shows the potential to be integrated into chatbots, design-making websites, and online medical consultations.
The new software is the successor of GPT-2, which the company decided not to release because of the dangers that it posed. It was vulnerable to threats and could be used in spreading fake news. GPT-3 is a hundred times bigger than GPT-2 and is intended to be the better version of it. The latest version is yet to be perfected. It still has a couple more things to be improved. Sam Altman, chief executive of OpenAI, tried to cool down the excitement about GPT-3, saying that people shouldn’t get their expectations up so much because it definitely still has a long way to go.
Dealing with language processing technology comes with many risks. It’s nearly treading close to the line of artificial intelligence, which Elon Musk has mixed feelings about. Many similar softwares that have been developed in the past have been taken down due to its unpredictability. Developers are still unable to determine the extent of their capabilities.
Technology like this has the ability to undermine human jobs. But most people tend to view this as something that could increase productivity. But it has far more implications for the overall work of human beings. GPT-3 will open new doors in pushing the limits of smart technology.
