Some iPhone users may have already started to experience the new update of the Amazon app. The new interface has been updated with a fresher look with its new color scheme and changes in navigation. The release only began this summer but it has not entirely covered all of the iPhone users in the United States but Amazon says that they intend to complete the rolling out of the update before this month ends. The company aims to cater to the entirety of their mobile app market within the year as they work on getting the updates onto the Android OS.
Amazon has not released a public announcement regarding their update, but only mentioned that it was part of a grander plan to optimize the user experience on the app that grants them easier access to its widely used features. The app’s revamped version will first be made available to users in North and South America, Canada, Europe, China, and Japan.
The new blue and green, almost teal, ambiance on the app gives it a brighter look. But the updates go way beyond just the visual appearance. One of the objectives of the update was to simplify usage of the app for users who only hold their mobile devices with one hand.
There is a “Quick Access” option on the lower part of the screen that provides shortcuts to the app’s most-used features. It can direct you to the home page, with the shopping suggestions, special offers including ones for every season. The profile icon is also a shortcut to the account page, where the orders, some lists, account settings, and search history, among others, can be found. The cart icon is also added, along with an icon for the other features like deals, Amazon departments and program, and the Alexa shopping list to name a few.
The downside though, is that with the tons of programs and features that Amazon has, it still has not found a comprehensive way to categorize those within the app. Everything is just randomly listed under the Programs and Features tab. An accessible search tab is also situated in the navigation bar where a search can be made by typing text, taking a photo, or through Alexa.
A representative from Amazon disclosed some details about the schedule for the release of the new update to TechCrunch.
The Amazon rep said, that “the new design for Amazon’s app on iPhone provides customers easier access to the features they use most, while on the go. This includes the homepage, account and order information, their cart and the ability to browse and discover Amazon departments and programs.”
Amazon is a large contributor to the sales generated by the e-commerce business especially with the ongoing pandemic. And the redesigning of its mobile app is “one of Amazon’s bigger updates to date.” With easier accessibility, people are more likely to utilize it. The app currently sits at the 26th spot in the ranking of the biggest applications on the App Store in the United States.
