The Boring Company, one of Elon Musk’s companies, has announced its intent to host a tunnel-digging competition.
The general public is invited to participate in the Not-a-Boring Competition for which participants are expected to bore a tunnel on a patch of Earth faster than a snail’s pace. To be eligible for participation, the company is asking contestants to form teams and come up with an inventive and novel digging technique that’ll result in a 98 foot (30-meter) hole with a 19.7 inch (0.5-meter) circle opening.
The team with the shortest time to accomplish the digging task with the highest level of accuracy wins. A mini-remote controlled Tesla provided by the company will also be employed to test the ease of driving of the hole’s surface. Prizes as well as the exact date of the competition is yet to be announced but the company eyes a Spring 2021 date. If you think you and your team has got what it takes to be the best tunnel borer out there, the company is accepting applications on its site.
The Boring Company, established in late 2016, was born out of an idea of founder Musk due to the heavy traffic in Los Angeles and the severe restrictions of today’s two-dimensional transportation network. Currently, the company is working on a project that aims to connect different areas of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
