This week, its the Republican campaign’s turn to showcase their much anticipated ceremonial campaign to kick off in Charlotte Convention Center and convince the Americans that their party’s President Donald Trump deserves a second chance at the White house.
The Republicans are officially ready to renominate President Donald Trump for his second term in the Oval Office in a four-day convention that will premier in Charlotte, North Carolina; however, the following program will take place in Washington, D.C., at and around the White House where Trump will deliver his acceptance speech. Unlike the Democratic convention, sources close to the organizers revealed to BBC that the campaign will hold an in-person roll-call vote, despite the coronavirus outbreak, and it will be on Monday morning and not during primetime. This move to push through in-person hosting will require attendees to wear masks and observe physical distancing as part of the precautionary measures. Organizers noted that attendees of this gathering, will be given a self-swab Covid-19 test, before traveling and entering their hotels, and officials will take responsibility to conduct, as per Associated Press, contact tracing every five, 14 and 21 days after the convention to check on potential symptoms.
This convention comes after a star-studded Democratic campaign that includes prominent political figures, and their much talked about speeches. This Charlotte convention will be a litmus test for Trump and his administration to persuade Americans to give them another shot to redeem his presidential hopes and to continue his promise of making America great again. With a well-orchestrated Democratic convention night, the pressure is on for the red side of the race to gain the attention of millions of American voters glued virtually on Joe Biden’s conviction to build back better the United States. For the past few months, the election polls, both nationally and in key battleground states, showed that Biden is leading the race, thus making this convention an opportunity for Trump and his team to shift the momentum on their side.
The GOP convention’s overall theme is “Honoring the Great American Story”, which focuses on Trump’s leadership and his vision for the next possible term. For each night, the organizers shared that the campaign will have different sub-theme: the land of promise, opportunity, heroes, and Trump’s slogan, greatness. The program will air a mix of pre-recorded and live speeches and will include videos just like DNC’s. From Monday-Thursday, the viewers of the program will expect a two and half-hour coverage of the convention. It will feature remarks from well-known Trump supporters, the President’s family members, and Republican officeholders of various levels.
