Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said that the U.S is one of the worst in response to Trump’s claims that the states have ‘one of the lowest mortality rates in the world and maybe the lowest mortality rate anywhere in the world’.
Gates, in an interview, points out three serious mistakes why U.S cases have not subsided. First, the re-opening of borders amidst high reported cases in the country. Second, people’s resistance to wear masks, and lastly, the lack of a Trump government’s leadership to prioritize concrete national plan to combat the pandemic.
The Republican President interview last Sunday with Fox News Anchor Chris Wallace showed how he claimed that the US, in terms of mortality rate, has the lowest in the world contrary to the data that Fox News, from Johns Hopkins University and Medicine, presented during the interview.
The philanthropist through his foundation Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation donated $300 million towards the global effort to combat COVID-19. He told CBS Evening News that deploying a coronavirus vaccine will require a global effort. He said that people need multiple doses of a potential coronavirus vaccine to immunize themselves from the virus and if necessary it requires more than 7 billion vaccines to be administered worldwide.
Gates believed that without US leadership on these matters, it will be hard to pull together the help that this nation needs. He added saying that developing countries “are bearing the brunt of the burden” and the government needs to step up to manage worldwide vaccines for Covid-19.
