Being the king in smart vehicles, Tesla has been dominating the market with its smart travel solutions such as e-cars and vehicles with an autopilot function. But they are about to take things to a whole new level as the company gears up for a software update which is eyed to help the company get closer to its ultimate dream of flawless and efficient self-driving.
In its massive software update yet, Tesla will focus more on the Artificial Intelligence (AI) aspect rather than the explicit decision-making algorithm in the current software version.
Neural network: a new approach
A typical Tesla model stops when it happens upon a stop sign on the road. But with the newest software update, the company is working out on a novel concept known as a neural network. Like how the human brain works, Tesla is trying to make use of its available data set to monitor actual human reactions to certain scenarios and be able to replicate them to the same given scenario. This is how the company approached its Software 2.0 version.
Tesla’s pioneering neural network is trained to function like a human brain wherein it can understand and recognize different road signs of objects on the road despite the different lightings and angles present. They are trying to formulate a high level of awareness of the visual surroundings of the driver during driving.
With the company handling a lot of big data analytics, they can employ this to its latest software update – making the system aware of itself more consciously.
The company is expecting to hash things out in the coming months, eyeing an initial launch in California then slowly rolling out to the rest of the world by the end of 2020.
