Technological business mogul and Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared his thoughts concerning artificial intelligence (AI) earlier this week as reported by the Business Insider. He reiterated himself on the report with him being quoted saying that people who don’t believe a computer could surpass man’s cognitive abilities are ‘way dumber than they think they are’.
He noted how he had been dealing with such technology for a long time now. "We should be concerned about where AI is going. The people I see being the most wrong about AI are the ones who are very smart, because they can't imagine that a computer could be way smarter than them. That's the flaw in their logic. They're just way dumber than they think they are," he was quoted saying on the report.
This is not the first time Musk has expressed his negative concerns regarding AI. It’s worth noting that as early 2018, he had shared that he considers the technology to be far deadlier compared to nuclear weapons. "Nobody would suggest we allow the world to just build nuclear warheads if they want, that would be insane. And mark my words: AI is far more dangerous than nukes,” he said on the report.
However, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has disagreed with Musk, saying AI has helped improve quality of life. He tagged the former’s excessive pessimism about AI "pretty irresponsible." In response to that, Musk called Zuckerberg's understanding of AI "limited” in a tweet.
I've talked to Mark about this. His understanding of the subject is limited.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 25, 2017
This stemmed from a backyard barbeque grill where the two have had a friendly chatter about the technology.
Experts in the field believe that it’ll take several decades before computers will have the ability to achieve human levels of intelligence with some doubting it it’ll actually reach that point in time. But they do all agree that if that time comes, they would quickly become super intelligent.
