Affogato came from Italy, which is a combination of gelato and espresso.
The word itself sounds Italian, “affogato” means “drowned” in reference to how the espresso drowned the gelato. It was first used in the English language in the year 1992. There are also variations outside Italy. Some would use brewed coffee, or they will add toppings like ice cream and all other toppings that could be added.
